Biography
RICOSTRU was founded in 2011 in Guangzhou, China, although the designer RICO MANCHIT AU studied in Italy at the renowned Instituto Marangoni. The brand’s name comes from the Italian word “RICOSTRUZIONE”, which means reconstruction.
RICOSTRU represents the independent thought and creative power that exists between “breaking” and “building”, and reconstruction is thus a central theme that runs throughout all of her collections. RICOSTRU is well known for its minimal style, and the combination of the traditional and the futuristic is also at the center of the brand’s philosophy. The concept of space is integral to the geometric tailoring, and by exploiting high-tech fabrics while simultaneously developing craft, the brand is highly experimental. Translucent color is another strong component of the design language of “RICOSTRU” that makes the brand unique.
Nature, time and space are abstract concepts that permeate the existence of RICOSTRU, as Rico is strongly influenced by the concept of “returning”. The pursuit of ethnic elements and new technologies allows for abstract stories to be told in a visual language that emphasizes the collision of points, lines and planes which are found in nature, time and space.
A contemporary independent brand, RICOSTRU has already successfully opened boutiques in both Shanghai and Beijing, and the brand is dedicated to balancing design value and market value everywhere. The brand has already earned acknowledgement and support from numerous Chinese fashion media and buyers and has been featured in multiple international fashion collaborations such as “The Vogue Talents Corner” at Milan Fashion Week. Displaying works on such authoritative global platforms with other outstanding independent designers from all over the world has solidified RICOSTRU’s position as one to watch.
