When on that early spring day in May of 2014 Google started to sell its Glasses, or optical head-mounted display, the rat race to “wearable devices” took off. In 2016, wearable-meets-fashionable tech is branching out and we notice new fearless influencers emerging from the pixels, including Beijing-based jewelry brand Totwoo. In wondrous wearable tech times, I wonder… Is going tech a fashionably smart move?
Wearable technology is branching out with new fearless brands dutifully clocked. Beijing-based Totwoo is one such example.
A number of so-called tech togs have since 2014 seen the light of tech terrain, often residing in the trends of fitness tracking and fashion statements. Nevertheless, the so very 2014 days of bracelets that function as USB cords are long-passé and wearable technology is branching out with new fearless brands dutifully clocked. Beijing-based Totwoo is one such example: “The world’s first brand that enriches its jewelry with high-tech social communication making it not only beautiful, but also functional.” End Totwoo quote.

The newly trending jewelry brand, co-founded by Chinese online entrepreneur Wang Jieming and Italian designer Marco Dal Maso, held its grand world premier in Milan back in October 2015. Its mass production started in June and the brand in July 2016went full-circle digital with its very own online store.
Another option is to switch on the jewelry’s “shining mode” for the piece to flash continuously – instantly turning you into a beacon in the night.
Totwoo considers its jewelry a fashion product first and a smart gadget second. Counter to other much-publicized brands, the company decided not to limit itself to one specific item and instead opted to introduce its products to the bigger public through different Swarovski and gemstones collections. Totwoo pieces now retail in the price range of 1,000 RMB to 2,000 RMB (some $150-$300). How, then, does it work?

Totwoo smart jewelry responds as follows: “A tap or a shake makes the necklace or a bracelet with embedded circuitry work as a pedometer, calorie consumption calculator, sedentary reminder or monitor of harmful UV rays.” Another option is to switch on the jewelry’s “shining mode” for the piece to flash continuously – instantly turning you into a beacon in the night. Moreover, those Bluetooth-wired Totwoo-wearers can even communicate by tapping or shaking their accessories; the wearables can divulge their innermost thoughts varying from “I miss you” to “I am sorry”. Which at times are the smart thing to say.
Totwoo is set to launch more smart jewelry collections incorporating several next-level settings, some of which will be for men. Now, that I call a smart move as I myself must admit: Being a woman, I like to keep my fashion and tech in separate drawers. Nevertheless, for those smart fashionable couples everywhere, it’s time to tap into “Tea for two”!
