Yesterday I visited the new showroom-boutique-studio of Charles Philip, the Shanghai-born shoe company that has skyrocketed into success in the last couple of years. I cannot believe that just a few years ago, I visited their original studio in northern Jing’An, where sample shoes and fabrics were scattered about. Charles and his business partner had big dreams and a lot of determination. Now, their beloved loafers are carried in well over 150 stores, including 10 Corso Como and on Net-A-Porter. The new Gao’An Lu studio has a fresh, fun, sophisticated design and a huge selection of shoes. But if you can’t find one that you like, you design your own pair from their big stock of fabrics and tassels. And the price is right too – hovering between RMB1,000 – RMB1,500.
