Couldn’t fit all the fun in just one post; here’s the second and final part of my NYC Travel Diary. (For part one, click here.)
1) Whitney Museum = The new 8-story space is drop-dead gorgeous (industrial, modern and minimalist in all the right ways) with breathtaking views of the city and an excellent inaugural exhibition “America Is Hard to See.” So glad my visit coincided with their opening because this is not something to be missed!
2) Russ & Daughters = Discovered this gem on Instagram (fast becoming my primary travel resource these days). Some locals scoff at the idea of a $10 bagel but let’s be honest – this array of smoked fish, caviar and rye bread just kills. Make sure you order the potato latkes with sour cream and salmon roe (yes it’s as good as it sounds).
3) Berry Park = Low-key rooftop bar in Brooklyn. I love watering holes located in refurbished warehouses but it was super hot and the cocktails were just okay … next time I’ll make it to the Wythe Hotel.
4) Chelsea Market = Duh. Super grungy-cool interior but personally I prefer San Francisco’s equivalent (the Ferry Building).
5) La Colombe = Strong coffee with long lines, but pretty to look at.
6) Dough Doughnut = More photogenic than tasty IMO, but then again I’m not really a sweets person.
7) The Meatball Shop = I freaking love this place. The bread is so light yet also substantial enough to hold up to the meatballs.
8) Tompkins Square Bagels = My god these are delicious. I can’t describe the difference between SF and NYC bagels except that it’s like trying dimsum in Hong Kong for the first time and discovering in that moment just how much better it is than the stuff you’ve been eating your whole life. Disheartening but revelatory at the same time.
