2015
Fall / Winter CollectionBeijing-born and Netherlands trained, Xander Zhou has been on our one-to-watch radar for a while now, with this seasons show cementing his place with an uber strong collection.
AW 2015 saw Zhou take us back to the wild west, although a slightly cooler more urban wild west than we remember from the films of John Wayne’s day. Every cliche was explored, and given the typical Zhou treatment, that is to say cowboy elements were taken out of their usual context, and reimagined– reworked denim knotted around shoulders like a cape, worn over a buttery tan leather shirt with matching frayed jeans.
This nifty styling trick continued, with a deep denim jacket and jean complemented by a frayed cream shawl. Zhou even took on triple denim, draping a frayed indigo denim shawl over buttoned up denim jacket and jeans in a lighter wash.
Leather was a key theme throughout the AW15 collection, appearing in a variety of finishes from fringed and patchwork trousers, to simplistic shorts to a particularly memorable black tassled leather over jacket. Used as accents leather was just as effective, notably one super soft beige shearling jumper featured diamond applique stitched leather patches, whilst a cream coat was finished with studded leather collar tips.
As far as coats went, this collection was at the top of its game. Colour patchwork was worked in alongside fur collar patches and trims, with the inclusion of a black fur waistcoat smartening things up a touch. Urban rodeo snuck in, with jackets featuring cow hide patches in fur and snakeskin further along
Footwear wise, the cowboy boot was the obvious choice, upgraded with a more utility style sole, in a variety of finishes ranging from black suede and white stitching to tan with leather patching.
